Who we are

Two career paths, one way of understanding data

We come from academic and clinical backgrounds. Today we help scientific and healthcare teams turn their data into decisions with impact, combining methodological rigour with narrative clarity.

Our story

From research and the hospital to data science

Julia
Degree in Chemistry (Licenciatura)
Since childhood she had wanted to work in health research. Chemistry was the first step.
2001
Rubén
Degree in Telecommunications Engineering
He was fascinated by how things work. Engineering gave him the method to solve complex problems.
Julia
PhD in Clinical and Medical Biochemistry
Molecular oncology and cardiovascular disease. Years in the lab that teach you to think from the data, with rigour and purpose.
2008
Rubén
Hospital medical physicist
Specialisation in radiation oncology. More than fifteen years ensuring the quality and safety of treatments in hospitals across Spain: the clinical context seen from the inside.
Julia
Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
A career change takes her from the lab bench to biostatistics: new tools to keep adding value through data analysis.
2019
Rubén
Master's degree in Bioinformatics and Biostatistics
A turning point: he discovers he can bring together what he knows from the hospital and data science, and starts combining both worlds.
Julia
Independent consultant
Her first clients of her own: universities, hospitals, international organisations. Analysis, interactive apps and data storytelling that go beyond the technical report.
2020
Rubén
PhD in Public Health
Infodemiology: classical epidemiology combined with data science. He contributes to the projects while balancing his doctoral research with his clinical work at the hospital.
2021 — 2024
Julia + Rubén
Joint scientific publications in indexed journals and projects with leading institutions in epidemiology, community pharmacy and public health. Rubén defends his PhD in 2024. Each project is a seed of the D²I methodology.
2025
Azahar Data Insights is founded
More than 15 years in research and healthcare settings; more than 5 offering data science applied to health. Two career paths that converge on the same aim: science that is understood, valued and has real impact.

We humanise science so that it can be understood, shared and applied with impact. Because behind every data point there are real people.

Our principles

What guides every project and every decision

Communication

“How you tell it matters”

Communicating data is a responsibility: knowing how to analyse them is not enough; they have to be turned into messages that connect, inform and mobilise.
That is why we listen first, ask before we interpret, and always look for the clearest, most empathetic and most useful way to translate complexity.
We use data storytelling to convey findings that go beyond the technical and give a clear, meaningful picture to those who need to act.

We commit to understanding your context and objectives in depth, and to structuring the results as clear, visual storytelling geared to decision-making and adapted to the audience that needs it.

Judgement

“Questioning to innovate”

Exercising judgement means knowing when to stop, observing carefully and asking good questions.
We don't follow inertia or fashion: we compare approaches and analyse what makes sense to keep, improve or discard.
We are interested in innovation, but with our feet on the ground. Because what is valuable often turns up exactly where we hadn't thought to look.

We will question you, respectfully. In every project we propose improvements to the initial approach if we spot weak points, risks or potentially sounder solutions. Our priority is not to complete the engagement, but for the result to make scientific and strategic sense.

Commitment

“Social commitment”

We believe in science that is useful, open and responsible, and that contributes to progress without giving up on ethics.
Our work aims not only for sound results, but also for a positive, lasting impact wherever we apply our knowledge.
That is why our involvement goes beyond the result: we take care over how we work, who with and what for.

We reject practices that compromise scientific ethics or distort results to meet expectations. We support open science and look for responsible ways to contribute to it through our work.

Purpose

“What it's all for”

We want to be part of the team. We get involved in every project as if it were our own, tackling each challenge in a comprehensive and strategic way.
For us, what matters is not the data themselves, but what they are for and how they help us reach the objectives.
Our approach is practical and functional, but no less valuable for it: we turn abstract data into solutions of high strategic value.

We only take on engagements where we can be an active part of the team. That includes regular meetings, collaborative iterations and a useful result aligned with your objectives.

Our methodology: D²I

We analyse to understand, we understand to act, and we act to create impact.

01

Core

Understand

We get a thorough understanding of the problem and the data before acting: context, objectives and the questions that really matter.

02

Model

Model

We apply the right statistical method to turn that understanding into solid, actionable evidence.

03

Impact

Communicate

We translate the results with narrative clarity so that anyone can understand them and make decisions with them.
